A Star-Spangled Salute!
Stars & Stripes Explosion
July 4, 2011
Virginia Beach Oceanfront
June 26, 2011
Virginia Beach, Virginia – Multiple live performances on oceanfront stages will attract thousands of visitors and residents of Virginia Beach to a “star-spangled” salute to this great country of ours at Stars & Stripes Explosion on Sunday, July 4th! Musical acts offer something for everyone - Latin music to R&B and jazz to classical (with Symphonicity, the symphony orchestra of Virginia Beach).
From 8:00pm-9:30pm, a stage erected right on the beach at 20th Street becomes the focal point for performances by Symphonicity (the symphony orchestra of Virginia Beach) together with the Virginia Beach Chorale. The concert will feature patriotic songs as well as music by Gershwin, 1812 Overture, and Stars and Stripes Forever. Soprano Kimberly Markham will sing excerpts from Les Miserables. The show will segue into a spectacular fireworks show at 9:30pm that explodes over the ocean in a burst of colors and patterns! This program on the 20th Street stage on the beach will be hosted by Juliet Bickford, news anchor and reporter for Newschannel 3 WTKR-TV.
Charlie Band will fill the 17th Street Park stage with the smooth sound of R&B from 8:00pm-10:30pm.
Latin music, presented by Selecta 1050 WVXX, will take center stage at the 24th Street Park. Children’s activities and concerts will be featured from Noon-11:00pm. Mosaic Steel Orchestra, Latin Jazz Conspiracy, Tumbao Salsero, and Plena Libre will perform Salsa, Merengue, and Jazz.
Who’s Bad, the popular Michael Jackson tribute band, will be featured at 31st Street Park from 8:00pm-9:30pm. Whether you idolized the Jackson 5, fell in love to Human Nature or memorized all of Thriller's creepy choreography, Who’s Bad is authentic, music-driven, must-see entertainment that navigates you back to that special place. As the curtain opens on a Who’s Bad performance, even the most skeptical Michael Jackson fan feels the excitement rising, screams at the sight of that unmistakable silhouette, and succumbs to a surefire MJ sing-along. The energy is magnetic, the musicianship is first-class, the dance moves exhilarating. Who’s Bad is a homage befitting a King and their high octane execution of MJ hits has exclusively catapulted them to the ranks of ultimate!
All concerts are free and open to the public.
